Armolan Window Film Protects Against UV Rays, Glare, and more

The feel of a work space can be dependent on a variety of factors – temperature, access to daylight, even the direction the building faces. As a building owner or manager, making sure your occupants are healthy and comfortable in their work environment is important and with this in mind, the International Window Film Association (IWFA), is encouraging the use of professionally installed window film.

While sunlight streaming in an office window is beautiful, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70, and each year over 5.4 million cases of nonmelanoma skin cancer are treated in the U.S., according to SkinCancer.org. In addition, repeated exposure to UV light can cause eye issues including blurry vision and cataracts. Prevention is possible and a useful strategy for workplaces is a professional installation of window film. Once installed, window film blocks 99% of UV rays, helping reduce the risk of skin cancer and eye damage.

Among other benefits, professionally installed window film helps avoid interior temperature swings and keep building occupants comfortable. Window film may help retain heat in the colder months, and in warmer months allows in less than 25 percent of solar energy versus 90 percent without film, keeping the temperature further regulated. The view to the outside doesn’t have to be compromised either. There is little or no visible change to the look of the windows, since window film is available in a variety of shades, from virtually clear, to medium, or dark. In addition, since the product is always in place, there is no operator involvement needed to enjoy its benefits.

Furthermore, professionally installed window film can ameliorate glare while still providing adequate light. By reducing excessive sunlight, window film can offer a more productive workspace so occupants can focus on the task at hand.

Armolan Window Film

“A commonly overlooked way to keep building occupants comfortable and healthy in the workplace is with professionally installed window film,” said Darrell Smith, Executive Director of the IWFA. “Instead of a full window replacement, which is costly and produces more landfill waste, professionally installed window film allows occupants to enjoy the space with high UV protection, while building operators benefit from avoiding costly window replacements and are also able to reap significant energy savings.”

A professional installation of window film is a wise investment that will bring back a measurable return on the investment. Federal, state or local incentive programs may be available for which installed window film may qualify. To view available tax incentives, visit here.

Armolan Architectural films can be used on any glass surfaces of buildings. Be it windows of residential complexes or commercial complexes, Armolan architectural films suit all purposes. Armolan architectural films cater to wide range of customer requirements. Heat rejection, reduction in glare, privacy, safety and good looks, all these requirements can be met using a Armolan architectural film.

Residential Film

When it comes to insulating your home against heat and cold, windows pose a special challenge. In summer, ordinary glass lets the sun’s heat penetrate your home, making you and your family very uncomfortable and forcing your air conditioner to work harder. In winter, glass panes lose a substantial amount of your home’s heat.
Solar control window film applied to the interior of your windows is a translucent solar screen that can reduce up to 80% of the sun’s heat. In summer your home is cooler and more comfortable, so you can save on energy bills. In winter, some window films trap room heat for year -round comfort.armolan films

Commercial Film

Many building operators experience difficulties with heating and cooling imbalances between sunny and shaded areas of a building. Solar control window film minimizes this inequity problem and helps improve the comfort level while reducing energy use.
Peak load demand can make a substantial difference in a building’s electrical costs. Many utility companies base their rate structure for a building on the maximum peak load measurement. Solar control window film helps reduce that peak and thereby the total electrical bill.

safety window filmsGlass poses some amount of risk, simply because it’s very brittle. According to a US government study, flying glass pieces are the biggest cause of injury during a blast or a storm. The answer to this problem is safety film. A safety film holds the glass together after a violent impact, preventing the shards from flying around and causing damage.

There are many reasons why builders and architects make extensive use of glass. For one, it lets in the light and thus cuts down on the amount of lighting needed in the daytime. Two, it looks good and creates a slick modern loos for commercial establishments. Three, it allows people to look into the interior, especially at night – which is important for retail, restaurants and so on.

Safety film has the ability to stretch. It is applied to the interior surface of glass using in extremely aggressive pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive. This holds the surface together when there’s a violent impact. It is manufactured with single or multiple layers of polyester film – clear or tinted – in a variety of ways. The more the layers, higher the protection offered.

Another benefit of safety film is that it offers a certain amount of protection against theft. A thief cannot just hurl a stone at a glass window to shatter it. When the projectile hits a window protected by safety film, it breaks, but doesn’t shatter; instead, the pieces are held in place by the film. So security personnel have enough time to rush to the spot and prevent the burglary from taking place.
For commercial establishments such as stores and restaurants, it’s important to have an absolutely spotless glass frontage. Safety film prevents unsightly scratches from appearing in the course of daily cleaning. Stains like hand prints or graffiti can also be easily removed from a glass window coated with safety film.

Protection from Accidental Injury

Like an invisible shield, security films offer protection from broken glass when accidents occur at home and at work. When ordinary annealed glass breaks, it poses significant danger. The shattered pieces become daggers that can cause serious injury or even death. Designed with commanding adhesives, security films reduce the danger of broken glass by keeping the pieces together and safely attached to the film.

Protection from Violent Weather

When natural disasters occur, devastation and loss are sure to follow. Glass is often first to cause casualties during a hurricane, tornado or earthquake. Broken glass gives wind, rain, flying debris full access to your home or office, which can cause great property damage and distraction. It can significantly threaten a person’s life.
Security films are Mother Nature’s match. Able to withstand extraordinary wind and force, security film helps prevent entry of water and wind-borne debris, providing superior protection 24-hours a day. Disasters can strike with little or no warning; security films are always ready.

Protection from Crime

The most vulnerable parts of a home or a place of business are doors and windows. They are points of entry for criminals and smash-and-grab thieves. Glass is an inviting target for vandals’ intent on mischief or worse.
Although alarms and security systems are helpful, they provide little protection from experienced or determined intruders. With security films, intruders cannot quickly penetrate the glass, even by striking it with a heavy object. Usually they become discouraged and depart in search of an easier target.

Protection from Explosions

In an instant, an explosion can fire broken glass fragments at lethal speeds. Research conducted after explosions, points to flying and broken glass as one of the main causes of death or injury.
While nothing can completely protect against powerful explosions, security films have proven their effectiveness in these moments of extreme danger.

New Brochure From Independent Rating Agency Shows How To Evaluate Window Films
Washington, DC — May 19, 2015 – Homeowners may continue to enjoy their single pane glass windows and gain energy efficient advantages for up to 80 percent less than the cost of new replacement windows with the professional installation of window films instead, according to the International Window Film Association (IWFA).

In cooperation with the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), the independent agency responsible for determining how well a glazing product will perform the function of energy saving, the IWFA is providing access to their brochure that helps consumers and professionals to rate window films.

“Most professional remodelers know the NFRC rates the performance of windows, doors, and skylights, however many do not know it also certifies the performance of window film,” said Tom Herron, director of communications and marketing for the NFRC.

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates single pane windows are in 33 percent of residential buildings and 40 percent of commercial buildings and account for about 25 percent of a building’s energy use or loss.

“Window film not only works smarter when it comes to energy savings, it’s a greener choice,” said Darrell Smith, executive director of the nonprofit IWFA. “Window film can be quickly installed on existing windows with minimal disruption to daily routine and it gives new life to once outdated windows so owners save on energy, avoiding both removal and disposal costs of the existing windows,” added Smith.

In addition, many window film products block up to 80 percent of the sun’s infrared energy to reduce solar heat gain and cooling costs. Other advantages include nearly eliminating UV rays that contribute to interior fading and damage the skin.

The NFRC brochure can be found here on the IWFA website in the Consumer Section under the Literature heading, http://www.iwfa.com/consumer/Literature.aspx along with other free consumer booklets.

About the International Window Film Association

Explanation of the State Law Summary Chart

The summary chart of state aftermarket tint law information is not a legal document. It is the result of independent research, using several sources of public state documents. Window tinting laws vary from state to state and province to province. Before applying any window tinting materials, installers should thoroughly review the appropriate state regulations as well as local enforcement policies to insure compliance with all applicable standards.

FilmVLT%: Refers to the film itself

Net VLT%:  Refers to the combined film & glass

Vague: The language of the law is unclear, legislative intent is unclear, or interpretation is uncertain.

Windshield: Presumably, NR tinting is permitted above the AS-1 line. If the law specifies only the AS-1 line, AS-1 appears. If AS-1 or specified inches appears, the AS-1 is assumed and only the number of inches down appears.(Note: NR is used in lieu of “No, Any, or a specific percentage” when the law permits unspecified “nonobstructive” or “Transparent” tinting materials. In these cases, the legality of tinting inevitably depends upon each officer’s discretion.

Front Sides: No film, or the actual percentage of VLT permitted. (Note: Because they may vary from state to state, manufacturer’s tolerances (i.e. + / – 3% VLT) are not listed on this chart, not are they included in these VLT numbers.)

MPV: Multi Purpose Vehicle, a vehicle with motive power, except a trailer, designed to carry ten people or less that is constructed either on a truck chassis or has special features for occasional off-road operation.

Back Sides: No film, or the actual percentage of VLT permitted.

Rear: No film, or the actual percentage of VLT permitted.

% of Reflectivity: NR No metallic or mirrored appearance

NE: Not excessive (not specific)

MNIR: Must not increase reflectivity

MBNR: Must be non-reflective (not specific)

NMMA: No metallic or mirrored appearance

NONE: No reference to reflectivity in the current law

Restricted Colors: R (Red), A (Amber), Y (Yellow), B (Blue), G (Gold), BK (Black), N/S (Not specified)

Mirrors (Left & Right required outside): YES or NO.
*Note: Usually, a YES means that dual outside mirrors are required if the back window is to be tinted.

Certification Required: YES or NO.
*Note: This refers to a requirement for manufacturers to certify the films they plan to sell before shipping them into the state.

Stckr/Loc: Sticker Location | NO: No sticker is required

Recommend: Sticker is recommended; can assist officers in identifying legal tint more easily.

Specific Locations: The State requires unique language & design, which may entail precise wording and sizing.

Driver The sticker is required between the film & glass on the driver’s side window.

Door:  The sticker is required on the inside of the driver’s side doorjamb.

All:  The sticker should be put between the film & glass on each tinted window.

Medical Exemption: YES or NO.
*Note: For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult the law.
